Here is my chicken story. First of all I live on maybe 1/4 acre, we have a nice sized house but we live in suburbia Houston. Second, I have never lived on a farm but have had horses and love all things farming. Third, I LOVE Tractor Supply, Chick days at Tractor Supply are so very very fun, cute fuzzy chicks and sometimes ducklings. Well this year when it was brought up in the house My Loving Husband said it was ok to get some, he loves the idea of zombie apocolypse so Im sure that was what he had in his head. We decided on 3 in case one of them didn't survive for some reason.
I spent the entire day at work researching chicken breeds, what they will need for the first few weeks, and general cost. When it came down to it Hubby was busy so I went on my own. I got what I thought I needed then asked for help getting chicks. Imagine my surprise when they told me I had to get 6! I called everyone, no one answered. In a panic, I went ahead and took them, pretty sure my friend would take the extras. I got ahold of her later and she being recently hen-less was happy to take the extras if I raised them. This is how I ended up with 6 chickens in my kitchen. Ok they are still chicks I have now had them 3 weeks and they need 2 more before they are old enough to go outside full time.
